WAICA Re Plc. announces the vacancy of the position of an Assistant Manager, Finance.

Job purpose

  • The Assistant Manager role is responsible for liaising with the CFO/Manager of Finance on the preparation of quarterly management accounts and related board papers. Organizing and ensuring efficient work performance in relation to credit control while ensuring accuracy in records and reports.

Job duties and responsibilities

  1. Accounting & Budgeting
  • Maintain financial records and reports in accordance with the various statutory and company obligations
  • Ensure bank and other GL reconciliations are properly done and checked
  • Ensure that proper financial and accounting policies and procedures, and internal control systems are in place, to ensure that internal and external audit issues are resolved, the maintenance of proper accounting system that ensures that income, expenses, assets, and liabilities are accurately recorded and adequately administered.
  • Preparing budgets and business plans.
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly management accounts, schedules and statutory returns as required and ensuring that all taxes and other statutory deductions are paid in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Ensuring that all regulatory returns in operating countries are accurately done and submitted within set deadlines.
  • Ensuring proper maintenance of fixed assets registers
  • Checking payment vouchers, journal vouchers, opening of new accounts, and validation check lists before approval by the CFO.
  • Ensuring that proper procurement procedures and controls are adhered to for all company procurements.
  1. Management & Financial Reporting
  • Preparing Monthly Management schedules for Debt’s collections/cash flow and Investments
  • Monitoring and reporting on all budget line variances, and specifically management expenses.
  • Liaison with the CFO / Manager of Finance, preparing quarterly management accounts and related board papers
  • Liaising with external auditors and other stakeholders, including staff, banks, cedants, and suppliers.
  • Preparing annual Financial Statements within the stipulated timelines 
  1. Treasury management
  • Monitoring the liquidity of the company to enable payment of short- and long-term obligations.
  • Preparation of monthly cash management report
  • Analyse various FX conversion alternatives available and advise management on the most competitive to undertake.
  • Liaise with various investment advisors, in conjunction with the Investment Manager, regarding investment opportunities and advise management accordingly.
  • Ensure proper recording and accounting of investment is maintained in the GL
  • Ensure compliance with the Acts and company policy while placing investments.
  1. Credit Control
  • Organising and ensuring efficient work performance in relation to credit control while ensuring accuracy in records and reports.
  • Ensure reconciled accounts of debtors, retro creditors and recoveries within agreed timelines.
  • Ensure requisitioned claims are well documented, and premiums have been paid before settlement.
  • Ensure proper creation and reconciliation of remittances between the GL and the SICs systems.
  • Ensure the monthly, quarterly and Annual Credit control reports are done in a timely manner.

Candidate Profile

        Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, an MBA is an added advantage.
  • ACCA/CPA

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years in a managerial position.
